GRANT SELECTION COMMITTEE Members serving on the 2008 Grant Selection Committee: Chairperson, Dr. Cynthia Wilson, Associate Professor of Special Education at Florida Atlantic University; Dr. Sandra Thompson, member of AASF's Board of Directors and Associate Provost of Florida Memorial University; Mr. Irvin Minney, Founding Board Member of AASF and Contract Manager for Broward County Transportation; Tracy N. Webster, Esq., Legal Recruiter with Lucas Group, AASF Volunteer and Donor, and Pauline Garrett, AASF Volunteer. Cynthia Wilson, Ph.D. Dr. Cynthia Wilson has served on AASF's Grant Selection for many years and has provided valuable input into the review and selection process. Dr. Wilson is a tenured Professor in the Department of Exceptional Student Education at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Her primary instructional focus is to train teachers to implement research-based, effective teaching practices in an effort to improve educational opportunities for children with mild to moderate disabilities and children who are at-risk for academic failure. In her tenure at FAU, she has been the Department Chair, the Director of a Teacher Education Project, taught 21 different courses, authored/co-authored more than 20 publications, and presented more than 30 papers at international and national conferences. Dr. Wilson has also been the recipient of the FAU Award for Excellence in Undergraduate teaching and has been principal investigator/co-principal investigator of grants totaling more than $3 million dollars.
Dr. Sandra Thompson Dr. Sandra Thompson is a member of the Board of Directors of the African American Success Foundation and serves on the Grant Selection Committee to identify AASF's research priorities and grant recipients. Dr. Thompson is a Professor of Sociology and is Provost at Florida Memorial University in Miami, FL.Dr. Thompson holds a Bachelors degree in History from Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina and also a Certificate in French from University Poitier in France. She obtained a Masters in History from Fisk University and earned her doctorate in History from the University of Florida.
Irvin Minney
Mr. Irvin Minney, Contract Manager for Broward County Transportation, is one of the Founding Board of Directors of the African American Success Foundation, actively served on the Board until 2003, and then rejoined the Board in 2008. Mr. Minney helped to establish many of the grant selection criteria and review processes and served as Chairperson of the Grants Selection Committee for many years. He remains a valuable supporter of AASF and is an active member of the Committee, serving as Board Liaison to the Grant Recipients. Tracy N. Webster, Esq.
Ms. Tracy Webster is a longtime AASF volunteer and donor who now serves on the Grant Selection Committee. She is also an active volunteer in the South Florida community and is an attorney who is a legal recruiter with Lucas Group in Miami, FL.Pauline W. Garrett Ms. Pauline Garrett is a new AASF volunteer and member of the Grant Selection Committee. Pauline is a retired Cardiac Sonographer and Manager, having obtained her education from Lincoln University in Missouri and the University of Texas in San Antonio. During her tenure at well known medical institutions such as the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, Boca Raton Community Hospital, and the Mayo Clinic, she she met and performed procedures on entertainers as well as United States Presidents. Pauline is a political activist working on the Obama campaign, a volunteer with the African American Research and Cultural Center, the Old Dillard Museum, various social groups, and is a seasoned traveler. |
