African American Success Foundation Success Summit Featuring
Mel Taylor graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio and Television in 1974. He began his broadcast career as a reporter for WHO-TV in Des Moines, Iowa and joined the Channel 10 team in May, 1981. Mel won praise for his incisive reporting during the 1980 Miami Riots. In 1979, he received an Emmy Award for “Florida’s Boat People: A Report on the Haitian Refugees.” He is most proud of how that story helped solve a problem for someone. Mr. Taylor has also garnered two Unity Awards. Mr. Taylor has two children
who are now in college and in his spare time enjoys photography and spending
time with his wife Joyce.
