Ms. Karida Brown was a doctoral candidate in Sociology in the Department of Sociology at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island conducting a study titled: Wanting to be Remembered: The Lynch Colored Public School, 1923-1963, focusing on “..the generation of men and women that have come from… (the coalfields of eastern Kentucky who have) …achieved incredible success, despite their humble beginnings and the tumultuous racial climate in America at that time. She received a Special Recognition Grant awarded by AASF‘s Board of Directors to support this research.
