What is a Celebrity?

A celebrity is a famous person who gets lots of attention from other people. Celebrities can be famous for their work in movies or TV, music, being a high-ranking politician or having a very big following on social media. People can also be famous for their wealth and good looks. People who act in movies or TV shows, play music, sing or rap, and go to space are celebrities. High-ranking politicians, television show hosts and people who help others are sometimes celebrities as well. People such as Mother Teresa and Alexander the Great were once celebrities because they did good deeds.

In the past, you had to do something very impressive or heroic to become a celebrity. Nowadays, all you need to do is mumble down a microphone wearing a hundred weight of jewels and you can be a celebrity. Celebrities can be a lot of fun to look at and admire, but it’s important not to idolize them because it can cause problems with mental health. In addition, the pressure and scrutiny that comes with fame can be detrimental to a person’s life.

Some actors have a starring role in movies or TV series and stay famous for that, such as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Jennifer Lawrence and Johnny Depp. Other actors get famous for their recurring roles in TV shows such as Sofia Vergara, Jenna Ortega and Millie Bobby Brown. Musicians and singers can be famous from having a song or album that is popular, singing in the church or having a big following on social media. Occasionally, athletes or business leaders become celebrities because they win a large number of medals or achieve huge success in their field. People who have very large houses, cars and other material possessions can become celebrities as well. It can be difficult to live the lifestyle of a celebrity and they often need a team to help them keep up with everything.

The popularity of celebrities has increased because of changes in society, such as the decline in organized religion and a rise in mediatization. Celebrities influence the behavior of other people and they can have a positive or negative impact on society.

Some celebrities are a constant source of controversy, but others manage to avoid it by keeping a low profile. However, not all celebrities have the ability to control the way they are portrayed and some have no problem letting their personal lives be abused by the press and paparazzi. They can’t walk down the street without being followed by fans, and they don’t have the privacy that most of us do. Nevertheless, there are many celebrities that have found a balance between their career and private lives and they can still be role models for others.
